Matthew persevered, and in December of 2023, he obtained the referral he needed to begin training.

That’s when Phoenix entered his life. Matthew met five rescue dogs from Charlie Mike, each ready to be paired with a veteran. Among them was Phoenix, a high-energy dog who had been waiting for nearly a year. Phoenix immediately captured Matthew’s attention. “When I was told that he had been passed up so many times, I knew that I was going to help save him.

Matthew’s journey reflects his commitment to improving his well-being and his dedication to Phoenix. While he acknowledges that there is more work ahead, he is confident that he and Phoenix will achieve their goals together. "Vets to Vets has saved my life and helped me save Phoenix," Matthew shared. "I can never truly express how grateful I am that Charlie Mike, and especially Vets to Vets United, decided to help me."
